FAQs

When did this retreat first begin?

Our first was in 2014, with subsequent retreats yearly until 2019. 2020's retreat was canceled due to COVID. 2024 is the first retreat since the pandemic, reinstated by request! :-)

Where have past retreats been held?

Past retreats have been held in Newark, OH, and Milford, OH. We moved the retreat to Loyola because they have more to offer, such as private rooms for all guests and all meals. The goal is to keep the retreat affordable without compromising quality.

When is the registration deadline?

August 1, but the sooner you register, the better because it is always possible that we will end registration early to ensure that the guest count will maintain the intimacy of the retreat.

Will there be any formal instruction, such as a writing workshop?

Nope. We will have fellowship time for sharing, where guests may get tips and suggestions from one another, but overall, this retreat is non-instructional and self-directed. Guests should come prepared to focus on their projects(s) over the weekend.

What can I expect during this retreat?

Tranquility and time to focus on you! More often than not, people simply don't make time for personal writing projects, especially if writing is a hobby and not a consistent income source. We put the responsibilities of caregiving, work, ministry, and much more over our own needs, neglecting things we enjoy. This weekend, you won't have to worry about anything, not even what to eat!

I'm not a writer. Can I still attend?

Sure! If you want to come and sleep the entire weekend, you have that right! Some past attendees have used this as a reading weekend. The time is yours to spend as you please. We only ask that you avoid bringing noisy habits. For example, you can't use this weekend to learn how to play the tuba! :-)

Why is it only for women? Men write, too!

With all due respect to the male writers, this retreat is for females due to the close proximity we will be with one another. We're housed under one roof, and often, we may walk around in pajamas or other non-public-friendly clothing. The goal is for everyone to be comfortable.
